Lifetime Magazine

Edition 1 - The Travel Issue

For the very first time Omega, makers of the watch that went to the moon and stole the heart of James Bond, is launching a global lifestyle magazine.

Issues will follow every March and September, with an initial print-run of 100,000 copies. The magazine is available to Omega customers worldwide through the company's unique global network of flagship stores and boutiques, all located in the best shopping streets of the most important cities in the world from Beverly Hills to Bangkok and Bond Street to Bahnofstrasse.

"Lifetime" makes an attractive gift for men and women of 30 years of age and up who share a taste for quality and a strong interest in fashion and urban living. Each issue will focus on a particular theme strongly related to the emotions and interests of our clients and readers. Top journalists and photographers will contribute articles on lifestyle, luxury, sport, design and art, as well as fashion and urban living.

September's first issue is "The Travel Issue", with more than half of the 124 pages devoted to the world of travelling. In each issue 20 per cent of pages will focus on Omega itself, giving a far clearer insight into the watches and jewellery of the famous Swiss brand than any other magazine can provide. A further 20 per cent of pages will be about the world of Omega and its partnerships in golf, sailing, the Olympics, space exploration, the Solar Impulse project, James Bond and the other Omega Brand Ambassadors. Regular features will include a major fashion shoot, timezone and essentials for him and her.

Omega has created "Lifetime" as a present to its customers, strongly believing that outstanding print magazines are precious collectors' items and carry emotional and relevant messages very well.

Edition 2 - The Olympic Games Edition

The opulent “Olympic Games Edition” of OMEGA Lifetime magazine is dedicated to the 2008 Olympic Games and to the country which is hosting them.

China has been undergoing a radical transformation in recent years and OMEGA Lifetime offers readers intimate views of the new China: there’s an article about the MAD, the country’s world-beating architectural studio and their work. Fashion coverage includes features about designer Jenni Ji and Chinese supermodel Du Juan. There are also profiles of controversial performance artist Zhang Huan and culinary superstar JinR.

On the 8th of August, 2008, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place at 8:08 p.m. The man behind the ceremony is audacious Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou whose compelling professional odyssey is detailed here. Lifetime’s “Olympic Games Edition” looks at the great legends of past Olympics as well as some of the world’s greatest competitive swimmers who are looking to make Olympic history in Beijing.

Along with coverage of the modern Games, there is a riveting look back at the ancient Olympics – it’s safe to say that the Olympiad has changed considerably over the centuries.

Our reportage on the Olympics would not be complete without a history of sports timekeeping from handheld stopwatches in the early years of the 20th century to the microsecond freeze frame scans which will be used in Beijing. The magazine also includes the definitive Guide to the Beijing 2008 Games listing all 302 final events scheduled for the 17 days of the Games.

The issue is rounded out with a revealing interview with Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek and rocker/photographer Bryan Adams’s pictorial feature on OMEGA’s favourite supermodel, Cindy Crawford.

Edition 3 - The James Bond Edition

The “James Bond Edition” of OMEGA Lifetime magazine is dedicated to the world’s favourite secret agent and to QUANTUM OF SOLACE, the 22nd instalment in the most successful film franchise of all time.

The James Bond Edition of Lifetime includes an editorial from the producers of the Bond movies detailing OMEGA’s long partnership with the film series as well as feature articles about 007’s vehicles and gadgets,
his choice of beverages and, of course, his watches.

A behind-the-scenes look at QUANTUM OF SOLACE takes readers on location with profound insights into the most lavish (and expensive) James Bond film ever as Daniel Craig reprises the role he assumed in Casino Royale.

There is also a literary portrait of Ian Fleming, the “gentleman writer” who created James Bond as well as a profile of Lawrence of Arabia – “the thinking man’s spy” who was a legendary OMEGA wearer.

This issue’s insert is a travel guide dedicated to 22 locations “to die for” which are associated with James Bond.

Lifetime also features a sensational, sultry, sensual pictorial with Du Juan, China’s most successful supermodel.

We are also happy to have the opportunity to wish OMEGA’s legendary Seamaster line a happy 60th birthday (we should all look so good at sixty!).

Also in this issue: on the 24th of August, 2008, OMEGA bid a fond farewell to Beijing, the city where we had been Official Timekeeper for the biggest, most spectacular Olympic Games ever. Lifetime reviews some of the highlights of the most exciting 17 days in sport and offers readers an inside look at the compelling events which took place at the OMEGA Pavilion.

The new Lifetime – available from the OMEGA Boutiques – will appeal to fans of the world’s most popular spy, to OMEGA enthusiasts and to anyone interested in reading about adventure and luxurious lifestyle.

Edition 4 - The Moon Edition

The “Moon Edition” of OMEGA Lifetime magazine commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. It was on the 21st of July, 1969 that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first human beings to step onto the lunar Surface.

This high-flying issue of Lifetime opens with an editorial from astronaut and OMEGA ambassador Eugene Cernan, the last man to walk on the Moon.

One of the lead articles includes a comprehensive history of the space program featuring anecdotes about the larger-than-life characters whose names became synonymous with manned space flight. It recounts in detail the seven lunar missions, including the much-storied Apollo 13. It didn’t fulfil its central aim of landing on the Moon but was returned safely to Earth as a result of human ingenuity and the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional chronograph.

For the world’s many Speedmaster fans, there are two articles about the watch which has been part of every manned spaceflight since the early 1960s. One is a history of the specific timepieces worn by the astronauts on their assorted missions; the other is about the brand new OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 11 “40th Anniversary” Limited Edition watches.

It’s been a significant year for OMEGA’s new product releases including the Constellation Griffes Fine Jewellery Collection, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Annual Calendar Watch, and the Seamaster Aqua Terra “White Jewellery” watch and they all have their own articles in the new edition of Lifetime.

The most talked-about watch at this year’s BaselWorld trade fair was the Seamaster PloProf 1200M Co-Axial chronometer and an article by PloProf specialist Jon Wallis compares the legendary original with its updated, state-of-the-industry successor.

The 154 page magazine is rounded out with articles about lifestyle and space-age gadgetry. Tom Munro’s stunning pictures of Cindy Crawford complement a reflective essay, “Why We Love Cindy”.

In his closing letter, OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart recalls how, as a young staff member at OMEGA, he was responsible for monitoring the communications between the Apollo 11 astronauts and Mission Control and translating it for his colleagues.

The new Lifetime – available from the OMEGA Boutiques – will bring back memories of one of mankind’s greatest scientific achievements to some readers and will allow those who are too young to remember the event through outstanding reportage and vivid photographs.

Edition 5 - The Green Edition

Available in your nearest OMEGA Boutique

The “Green Edition” of Lifetime has a special focus both on our natural environment and the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The issue is packed with features including interviews with the Swatch Group’s outspoken Chairman and long-time environmental advocate Nicolas G. Hayek and with Oscar-winning actor George Clooney, who was appointed by Hayek to the board of directors of Belenos Clean Energy Holding Ltd., a company founded to explore clean alternatives to internal combustion engines.

The “Green Edition” also includes a large section called “How to Save the World” whose articles are filled with tips on what we as individuals can do to preserve our precious planet’s ecological balance. Well-respected resource experts and activitists have contributed to the magazine and their thoughtful comments are provocative and informative.

OMEGA watch enthusiasts will find extensive reportage on the redesign of the entire Constellation line. In 2009, OMEGA updated and upgraded each watch in the popular Constellation family in one of the most eagerly-anticipated product launches of the year. Lifetime’s readers are taken behind the scenes and introduced to the newest Constellations.
The Vancouver 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games are just around the corner and Lifetime’s advance coverage includes a story about Vancouver, one of the world’s most beloved cities. Appropriately, the article is focused on green initiatives which have characterized the city as it prepares for a sustainable Olympic adventure. There is also a pull-out section dedicated to the Games at which OMEGA will serve as Official Timekeeper for the 24th time.
The “Green Edition” of Lifetime – available from OMEGA Boutiques –makes a meaningful contribution to our environmental dialogue. With these timely features combined with the coverage of the Olympic Winter Games and some of OMEGA’s most popular products, Lifetime is continuing to establish itself as a “must read” lifestyle magazine.
